Are you a foodie? Do you enjoy unusual architecture? Have them both! Enjoy a 6-course meal from a Michelin award-winning restaurant and take in some of Gaudi's unique artwork. A truly one of a kind visual and gastronomical treat!
Gourmet Gaudi is an experience that is set in the La Manzana de la Discordia (Block of Discord) in Barcelona. The name of this area is a reference to the golden Apple of Discord in the Judgment of Paris, a Greek myth in which three goddesses competed to determine who was the fairest among them. Three of the most notable architects of Barcelona designed and built majestic homes along this block, each very different from the other in style. As a result of the vast differences, the homes clashed not only with one another but also with the other architecture around them. Hence, the discord.
Whether you are vacationing in Barcelona, in port for the day, or spending a little time before or after your cruise, this adventure is a must!
As you stroll the Block of Discord, your guide will share information with you about the specific buildings. Casa Battle, with its exterior that mirrors a calm sea, was designed by Antoni Gaudi. Another of his buildings, Casa Mila (also known as La Pedrera), was the last residence he designed. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this spectacular structure with itscade of undulating curves was an integral part of the book by author Dan Brown, "Origin". Casa Lleo i Morera, designed by Lluis Domenech i Montaner and known for its beautiful tile work and sculptures, as well as Casa Amatller, designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch for chocolatier Antoni Amatller, are also included on the excursion!
Meet your guide at a convenient location for your boutique food experience! Your first destination is at a beautiful bar of the early 19th century that once housed a cafe-theater, where you will dine on oysters accompanied by cava, a sparkling wine that originated in the Catalan region. Cava may be made of either chardonnay grapes or may be similar to a rose. Follow this with a chocolate tasting in one of the Modernist buildings.
Is your mouth watering yet? Prepare yourself for an incredible 6-course lunch created by one of the world's premier Michelin chefs. The chef's creations will be different each day, but whatever is served is sure to delight the palate in ways unsurpassed! A word of warning, though! Be sure that you save room for the final stop of the day! You will go to a rooftop bar overlooking Barcelona where you can relax with a glass of wine or other beverage as you reflect on your day in the life of the rich and famous! The Michelin star rating system was developed in France in 1900 and has become the ultimate prestige award for a restaurant's quality.
This is a 5-star experience that would be deserving of 6 stars of that rating were to exist! Only 30 minutes of walking is required! As the icing on the cake, perhaps one of the best aspects of the excursion is that it is limited to 8 people, which means it will feel more like spending a day with friends than the typical excursion!
At the end of your day, you can return to your cruise pier or hotel at your leisure and own expense. You will most certainly be satisfied and will talk of this unparalleled experience for a long time to come! Please see the restrictions before booking this excursion.
