Your fun and relaxing day will start right from the cruise pier where your guide and transportation will be waiting for you. The route will take you through the Jamaican countryside on the way to the rafting base on the Great River. The scenery along the way is interesting as you pass small towns of the everyday Jamaica. Your English speaking guide will give you lots of history and information during the excursion.
Arriving at the rafting camp in the village of Lethe, you will board your raft. They are constructed from 30ft long bamboo poles and seat just 2 people. You will be introduced to your river captain who will use a pole to push your raft downstream. The captain will entertain you with facts and stories of the river. This is NOT a white river rafting excursion but rather a gentle float. The lush vegetation along the shore shades parts of the river. Remember your camera.
Note that the maximum number of people on a raft is 2 whether an adult or a child. For example - 2 adults or 1 adult + 1 child. A child may not ride along with both parents on the same raft.
At the end of the bamboo raft portion, you will climb on board a tractor-drawn wagon for a short ride down the road to a small working plantation where bananas and pineapples are produced. You will have an informative and educational tour of the plantation.
Also at the plantation, you will see how coconuts are harvested. Marvel at how the barefoot worker climbs the 75ft tree to cut down coconuts. You will get to sample fresh coco water and the tasty coco meat. Learn how to create a famous pina colada made with all of the fresh ingredients you just saw cut!
When you leave the plantation, you will drive to Richmond Hill for maybe the best views of Montego Bay. You will then travel to downtown Montego Bay for some shopping time at the duty-free areas at City Centre and local souvenirs and handmade items at the Montego Craft Market.
Also included is a hot country Bar-b-q lunch!
On the way back to the cruise ship pier, you will travel through the Sam Sharpe Square, named for one of Jamaica's national heroes. You will have many good memories of your day as you arrive back at your ship's cruise terminal.
Great, relaxing and fun
Honestly, I thought this would be boring but was not going to tell my girlfriend that when she choose this. But it really was fun!

Slow paced and very interesting
Sometimes it is hard finding tours that do not involve a lot of running around. This was slower paced and was perfect for my husband and I. We got to see so much of the countryside and our guide gave us such interesting information about Jamaica. Part of our excursion also included a bamboo raft ride. This was a lazy float down the river - not white water rapid type! Our boatman used a pole to "push" the boat down the river. The only bad thing was my husband forgot to bring the camera! The shopping was nice. We were able to find several items for Christmas presents and some souvenirs.
