Take a step back in time on the Grand Cayman Historical Highlights, Sightseeing and Seven Mile Beach Break Excursion. Learn about the roots of the Cayman Islands seeing various sites such as Heroes Square, King George Watchtower, Peter St. James Castle, as well as spend some time relaxing at the famous Seven Mile Beach. You will also have the opportunity to shop with special discounts in the George Town Shopping District at the conclusion of your Excursion. See and experience a little of everything during your time in port at Grand Cayman!
Once your ship has arrived at your Grand Cayman tender pier, you will meet your guide directly outside of the tender terminal. Your knowledgeable and friendly guide will lead you to your comfortable transportation. Sit back and relax as you are transported through time. First, you will drive through Heroes Square, which was named so in honor of the many people whose dedication and support encouraged the development and growth of the Cayman Islands. Continue on your way passing by the following sites of interest: The King George Watch, the Public Library, the Court House, the Legislative Assembly and the Post Office.
After your exploration through the Capital, you will turn south to see some of the fanciest and largest homes of the island in the neighborhood of South Sound. Soon you will come upon a peculiar site along the coast, a large casuarina tree covered in Flip Flops! Two tourists were frustrated to see so much trash left behind on the beach, so they started nailing the abandoned shoes they found to the tree to make a statement. Here you will have around 20 minutes to stretch your legs and snap a picture or two at the Flip Flop Tree before continuing on your way.
Next, you will head to the Peter St. James Castle, the oldest building in the Cayman Islands. You will spend about an hour learning all about the socio-cultural past of Grand Cayman. The castle is the location where the first constitution was signed in 1780 as well as the end to slavery in 1834. A fantastic 3D theater shows a detailed presentation on the topics. After the show, you will be given a guided walk of the whole property, which has fantastic ocean views.
Hop back in the transportation to go downtown where you will stop for a quick opportunity to take some pictures at the intriguing Conch Shell House, a home decorated with 4,000 conch shells! Depart from the Conch Shell House, it’s time to hit the beach! Seven Mile Beach is a beautiful crescent-shaped bay lined with soft white sand. It is said to be one of the best beaches in the Caribbean. You will enjoy the full facilities, such as bathrooms, changing rooms, and free WiFi. Available for rent are chairs and umbrellas, water sports equipment and food and drinks for purchase. After an hour and a half of soaking up the sun rays and relaxing in the turquoise clear water, you will get back on the transportation to return towards town.
At the end of your excursion, you will be brought to the George Town Shopping District, where you can choose to take advantage of the special discounts and services available only to those from the excursion, or you can return to the ship just a few steps across the street. Some of the locations offering special discounts are Kirk Freeport, Diamonds International, Island Company, and Magnum, as well as the restaurants Hard Rock Café and Margaritaville! Finish off your day getting souvenirs to remember your history filled day in Grand Cayman.
