Explore the famous North Shore of Oahu and visit the Polynesian Cultural Center to get a feel of Hawaiian life and history.
Departing from the cruise pier in Honolulu, you will set out to see the very best that the island of Oahu has to offer. A 40-minute drive through the center of the island brings you to the Dole Pineapple Plantation Pavilion, where you can learn about Hawaii's pineapple plantations, growing and harvesting. The first Dole plantation on Hawaii was founded here in 1900. You will have about 25 minutes to explore the welcome center and sample frosty pineapple whip.
Continue on to Waimea Bay, the gateway to Oahu's North Shore and head towards the north end passing one big wave surfing beach after another. Laniakea, Sunset, Banzai, K-land and more, all challenging to the best of surfers. Based on traffic, a photo stop will be made at one of the beaches.
The Polynesian Cultural Center is Oahu's most visited attraction and for good reason. Within its 420-acre (169 hectare) compound you can wander through six different Pacific cultures while watching natives demonstrate their ways of life and their arts. Samoa, Tonga, Aotearoa (New Zealand), Fiji, Tahiti and Hawaii are all showcased in their unique villages.
In addition, in the afternoon, there is a pageant in the middle of the lagoon and the option of taking a canoe ride between the villages. Food outlets offering traditional themed food and drink are located in several villages for the purchase of a snack or lunch. Total free time at the Polynesian Cultural Center is approximately 3 hours.
Along the east side of the island, your coastal drive will take you past lush Kahana Valley, used as a film location on the former TV series, "Fantasy Island," and the offshore island known as Chinaman's hat.
A quick stop will be made to sample Hawaiian grown macadamia nuts before returning to your Honolulu Oahu cruise pier.
Please Note - On Saturdays only, excursion operates as a disembarkation excursion for guests overnighting in the Waikiki Beach area or with flights departing after 7:30pm. All other days, the excursion returns to the cruise pier only.
