Great excursion for whole family! Educational, entertaining and just a lot of fun. Enjoy sightseeing, a bamboo river float, plantation tour and a delicious lunch.
Your fun and relaxing day will start right from the cruise pier where the friendly guides and transportation will be waiting for you. The route will take you through the Jamaican countryside on the way to the rafting base on the Great River. Your English speaking guide will give you lots of history and information during the excursion.
Arriving at the rafting camp in the village of Lethe, you will board your raft. They are constructed from 30ft long bamboo poles and seat just 2 people. The captain uses a long pole to push the raft down the river. He will entertain you with facts and stories of the river. This is NOT a white river rafting excursion but rather a gentle float. There is much to see along the route so bring your waterproof camera.
(Note that the maximum number of people on a raft is 2 whether an adult or a child.)
At the end of the bamboo raft portion, you will climb on board a jitney, a type of tractor pulled wagon, for a short ride down the road to a small working plantation where bananas and pineapples are produced. The guide will tell you the history and information about this typical Jamaican plantation.
You will see how coconuts are harvested as you watch the barefoot worker climb the trees to cut down coconuts. You will get to sample fresh coco water and the tasty coco meat. Learn how to create a famous pina colada made with all of the fresh ingredients you just saw growing on the plantation.
Next is a tasty bar-b-q lunch served along with fruit drinks to enjoy before you head back to the cruise pier. You will have the option to be dropped off in downtown Montego Bay for some shopping time at the duty free areas at City Centre and local souvenirs and handmade items at the Montego Craft Market to return to the ship at your leisure and expense.
great choice for excursion
We took this excursion in Feb of 2016. Tour guide was very helpful, raft trip was relaxing and beautiful. Romeo was our raft guide and he was very knowledgeable and fun. The lunch was good and the tour of coconut and banana growing was fun. Very easy to book and the group was waiting for us when we docked. Also went into town to shop and back to the ship in plenty of time. Great trip to take.

The Love Boat
This was just what we hoped to achieve on our cruise stop at Montego Bay! We had no issues finding our guide and Lisa was absolutely a great start to our tour. She drove us to the raft location and returned us after and went over and beyond in giving us all the information and history of the island and its people. Once on our bamboo raft named the love boat we met our "captain" and owner Andrew. What a wonderful hard working young man he was. So very friendly and knowledge about the area and the job he was doing. He even gave the wife a pedicure using the limestone from the lazy river we traveled down. Had a very nice lunch prepared by Joyce after a informative tractor/wagon trip of the local small plantation and before a sample of the local run and class on how to may the perfect
Pina Colada. Price was very reasonable. Again thanks to Lisa and Andrew and all the people who's names I forgot.
