Explore the amazing Mayan Ruins of Dzibilchaltun and relax at one of the most popular beach clubs in Progreso.

You will start this fun-filled day by meeting your guide by the cruise terminal area. You'll be shown to comfortable and air-conditioned transportation for the 40-minute drive to the ruin site.

Once you are at the Dzibilchaltun Mayan Ruins, you'll follow your guide through what was once the largest cities in ancient Mesoamerica. The first settlers arrived at this spot about 500 B.C. and continued to build and settle until the Spanish Conquest of 1540 AD. This ruin covers about 19 square kilometers and had around 8,400 structures in the round enclave. Once it was home to over 40,000 inhabitants. There is so much to see at these great ruins!

On your walk, your experienced guide will tell you information about the culture, as well as the meaning and use of the structures you'll see. One of the most impressive is the Temple of the Seven Dolls so named because 7 small effigy dolls were found inside. The structure has steps on all 4 sides built on a pyramid base and a long column that extends upwards with four windows. It is a masterpiece of architecture due to the fact that on both the spring and fall equinoxes the sun shines directly through the east and west windows.

You will also be shown to the Xlacah Cenote located at the ruins. A cenote is a constantly spring-fed body of water that was important to the inhabitants for all measures of life. You are welcome to take a dip in the cool and pristine waters if you'd like. The cool, fresh water is refreshing.

Next, you'll board your transportation for the drive back to Progreso for your time at Silcer Beach Club. This property is new and limits the amount of guests per day. The property is private so you can have a relaxing, stress-free day.

You will have access to all the facilities including the lounge chairs, umbrellas, adults and kids pools, lockers, kayaks and more! Food and drinks are available for purchase and the staff is devoted to making your day the best one possible. Note: Their menu includes items such as chicken and beef fajitas, Mexican and Yucatecan food, guacamole, nachos, burgers, hot dogs, pizza and more. They served national beer brands, soft drinks and mixed drinks.

If you choose the All Inclusive package, you would have unlimited drinks and mexican buffet available. The beach club's open national bar features: Pina colada, Margaritas, Soft Drinks, Mixed Drinks, Beer (Corona) and Bottled purified water. All mixed drinks are available with or without alcohol (rum and tequila). Additional choices/drinks at an additional cost. The beach club's buffet will include (subject to change): Panuchos (traditional Yucatecan dish), Salbutes (traditional Yucatecan dish), Quesadillas, Tacos, Chicken Fajitas, Salsa and Chips, Guacamole, Nachos, Pizza, Burgers and Hot dogs.

You can just kick back and enjoy the gorgeous views of the Caribbean while you sip a cool drink, take a dip, go for a stroll, or do nothing at all. But, unfortunately, all good things must come to an end and when this day does, you will be returned to your Progreso cruise ship terminal.

Best Archaeological experience ever! Adam is Amazing!
     5/5  November 2019
I had the absolute best time! Our tour guide, Adam, is not just a local but also a full fledged Archaeologist! He kept the 30-40min bus ride very entertaining with his plethora of knowledge, while mixing in a few jokes and stories. Bus itself was comfy and driven by a delightful driver, Toni. The Mayan ruins were incredible! To stand in the same location as the ancient Mayans is really a once in a lifetime experience. You can climb up several of the temples/structures and get some amazing photos/viewpoints. There\'s even temples that haven\'t been excavated yet, which gives you an idea of just how hard it is to find these buildings initially. Adam gives you a guided tour (about 40min), and it happy to continue giving you information about the wonderful area, and you\'re free to look around on your own for the rest of the time. The Sun temple, while closed to climbing, was cool to see. There\'s an interesting natural spring, around the size of a large swimming pool, filled with an abundance of fish who will gladly give your feet a soft spa pedicure (warning: it tickles like crazy). Weather was perfect! 80 degress and clear, I highly suggest you go in Fall and avoid the heat of Summer. Bring some sunscreen and bug spray, as you would anywhere else that Nature exists. The beach portion of trip was a lot of fun. A brief walk (about a city block) and we arrived a nice beachfront local restaurant, to enjoy roughly 90min of open bar time. Some drinks are pre-made in large batches, but everything is clean and sanitary. Cups are around 12oz, but you can easily order multiple and \"double\" for stronger drinks. There were a few local vendors wandering around the area (the beach is public after all) that will approach you. They\'re trying to make a living of course. But a kind \"No\" and wave of your hand (as Adam instructs you), and they will pass you by. Never did I once feel crowded by them. The staff was very kind and the prices on food was quite reasonable, akin to average prices of most Mexican restaurants back home. Food was both great and interesting! You\'re given free chips n\' salsa, beans, and a small veggie plate, but can order more food. Bartenders were super friendly and the DJ kept the music going and even did a fun ring toss game! Beach itself was pretty. Water had a little bit of algae but wasn\'t gross. There are some sharp shells in the water (because it\'s a beach), so make sure you wear flip flops, etc. There were some seagulls, but that\'s simply nature for you. Just make sure you cover your plates if you get up, and every once in a while one bird might get brave and land on the table. Just DON\'T feed them. You\'ll regret it. Overall, best Archaeological experience ever! Ruins and rum! You couldn\'t ask for more.

First time in Progreso
     5/5  April 2017
We booked this Progreso tour on our cruise last month. It was a great family day. Our guide was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot about the Mayan history and culture. These were great ruins to visit - lots to see and explore, not very crowded. The water at the cenote so clear! Food at the beach club was good and not expensive at all. All the family enjoyed the trip.

Perfect Excursion
     5/5  August 2017
All my favorite activities in one! With this excursion, you'll get to learn, explore and relax. My kids enjoyed visiting the ruins and Cenote. We finished the excursion by relaxing at the beautiful beach club with different activities and food options for my picky eating kids and they loved the food! Such a great trip : )
