Your day of exploring and sightseeing will start right outside the cruise terminal in Progreso. Your shore excursion guide will greet you and get you onboard the air conditioned transportation to begin the day combined with Mayan ruins and sightseeing.

Dzibilchaltun, pronounced dzeeble-chal-toon, are situated just south of Progreso. Along the short route, your certified, English speaking guide will go over the play for the day. They will give you an educational and informative excursion! Have your questions ready and your cameras handy. When you arrive at Dzibilchaltun, you will have the opportunity to see many of the structures and learn more about the Mayans culture.

One of the most famous structures is the Temple of the Seven Dolls named for the seven small dolls found when archaeologists discovered the ruins in the 1950's. One of the unique features of the Temple is the position the Mayans constructed the building. The Temple is situated so that on the day of the Spring Equinox, the sun rises and shines directly through one temple window and out the other.

Cenote de X-Lacah, a large fresh water sinkhole, is also well known and you will be able to take a dip in it if you wish! An unusual oddity is the ruins of a 16th-century Spanish church built within Dzibilchaltun grounds making it a unique combination clash of religions side by side. Located on the grounds are a visitor center with maps, restrooms, and gift shop. There is also a renovated museum with many examples of Mayan artifacts that you may view.

Your Progreso Mayan ruins cruise shore excursion transportation will take your back to your cruise pier terminal in Progreso after this Dzibichaltun Mayan Ruins Excursion.

Had a great time!
     4/5 Visited in April 2017

Met our bus at the port and took a short ride to town. We had time to shop around the market before catching our bus to the ruins. Our guide was very knowledgeable and told us the history of the area and taught us some Mayan words on the way to the ruins. Once inside, we toured around the park and then went to explore the ruins and cenote. It was really beautiful, but really hot. No shade anywhere, but it was expected. We ate lunch at the restaurant above the museum and shops. Really good authentic food, don’t miss out! Bring water with you and be prepared for some walking. Over all it was a great trip, and we would definitely do it again.

Easy excursion and fun

We have been to ruins before, but this is the first where we were able to actually touch them. We climbed to the top of several. To be able to touch history is special. Not to mention the sink hole swimming. Fantastic.

Be sure to check your departure time for excursion! Our paperwork said to be there by 8:30 am. We were there but got stuck waiting in terminal until 10:30.. with 3 kids!! Very long wait. We did enjoy the tour, especially swimming in the sink hole. Wear a hat & bring water as it was very hot.

Great Day trip
     5/5 Visited in July 2015

We visited these ruins while on a stop in Progresso from the Carnival Elation last week. We had a great experience with your company, the tour guide and bus driver. I booked this rigthe before we cruised. It did take about 12-15 hours to get my info emailed to me, so allow enough time. The trip was just right amount of time. Going in July it is quite hot so anything longer would have been too much. Everything was professional. Nice short A/C bus ride to the ruins. Gave us a chance to see the village. We had a small group so our tour guide was able to really talk to us and answer questions. He was very informative. Our teenage daughters got into the Cenote. It was cold and refreshing. They would recommend water shoes as it was very rocky. Bring water and wear good walking shoes. Our family of 5 was very pleased with this company and the tour.

We had 5 people in our group. 3 adults and 2 children. I chose this trip because of the price and it had exactly what we wanted to do and what we did not want to do. We did not want to attend an "eating festivity" or shop. We were 100% interested in the Ruins. The tour guide, Diego, was an older gentleman who reminded me of my grandpa and he was the perfect tour guide. He was extremely knowledgeable and patient and did exactly what he said he was going to do. They were very prompt on time. Diego explained our itinerary in detail, we did not have any questions, and everything was exactly as he said. He introduced us to a tour guide at the Ruins, the tour guide explained the different ruins and talked about the history, and then let us wander free to explore. We were able to climb the ruins and go swimming in the fresh water sinkhole when we were finished with pictures and exploring. Diego said to be back on the bus at 2pm and at 2:08 the bus was leaving. They dropped us off right at the pier, near our cruise ship along with the rest of the bus passengers that were on the same cruise. I am definitely using this company again. Everyone was so nice from the phone calls I made before the trip, the employees in Progresso giving out the wristbands to our driver and tour guides. Extremely safe, secure and definitely using this company again!

hard to pronounce but good ruins
     4/5 Visited in September 2013

We choose the ruins at Dzibilchaltun over Chichen Itza because of the time our ship was going to be in port. These ruins were nice although not as spread out as Chichen Itza. We were not disappointed and glad we choose this tour. The price was great for our group and we had a good guide who speak very clear English. I still can't pronounce the name though!
