Here's an excursion that comfortably fits three of the best activities to be found out of Puerto Caldera. Enjoy a lovely drive through the surrounding countryside where you'll enjoy the mountains, rolling hills and quaint towns. Then it's off for some great shopping in Oratina and then on to a sightseeing tour of nearby Puntarenas. This great excursion manages to do much but retains an atmosphere of relaxation. Don't forget your cameras.
This day begins when you meet with your guide next to your Puerto Caldera cruise ship pier. You'll be shown to your comfortable transportation and can relax in air conditioned comfort as you are driven through lush, tropical countryside. Enjoy the unique villages and the tropical foliage that are all set off perfectly by the ever present mountains covered in rainforest jungle.
Next you will have a chance to stop in Oratina where you do some unusual shopping. It's important to note that you can find many interesting fruits that often cannot be found back home. Browse through the star fruits, cashew fruits, mangos and so much more. Then take a peek inside the famed El Jardin Souvenir Store, or just take a walk around and explore the area.
After your time in Oratina comes to an end you'll be driven back to Puntarenas for a short sightseeing tour. Although Puntarenas was once one of the main ports in the area it is now mostly a stop point for cruise ships that come in from the Pacific. It is a charming city nonetheless and has lovely, old buildings, an interesting, and also quite old, church and a promenade called the Paseo de Turistas. This is a tree-lined walkway that goes along the beach that is also a favored gathering point for the locals known as Ticos. You'll have the opportunity to dine in a restaurant, if you choose, and we can almost guarantee you won't find seafood any fresher elsewhere. Enjoy the lively grouping of cafes, discos, and local shops that offer a variety of selections.
Once your excursion is completed, you will be dropped off at your Puerto Caldera cruise pier.
