Gaudi began construction in 1882, knowing he would never see its completion. The church, a Roman Catholic basilica, has been funded only by donations since day one. It is projected to be done by 2026, on the 100-year anniversary of Gaudi's death.
The Basilica de la Sagrada Familia, known simply as Sacred Family, was designed in a Latin cross plan with five aisles. The vaults reach a height of 230 feet and every corner seems to be filled with extremely rich ornamentation and symbolism. This is unlike any other church you may have seen. You will also visit the Sagrada Familia museum, where you will see drawings, scale plaster models, and pictures about the history and development of this basilica from its early beginnings to the present day.
Your guide will be with you for approximately 90 minutes. You are welcome to stay longer after your guide departs and the guided portion of the excursion is completed. You may return to your cruise ship at your leisure and own expense.
Note: We do offer an excursion that includes a visit to the towers of Sagrada Familia - Barcelona Sagrada Familia and Towers
