Experience all the flavors of Spain on this unique guided walking excursion. Savor Spain is an experience to be enjoyed whether you are on vacation, in port for the day, or staying in Barcelona prior to or after your cruise. Bring a healthy appetite and prepare yourself to return to your point of origin satiated. No worries if you have special dietary requirements because on this excursion they can cater to almost any need you may have!

You will meet your guide at a convenient location to begin your 4-hour experience that includes approximately 1 hours total walking at a relaxed pace, covering about 3 kilometers (2.2 miles). At the end of the day, you will be grateful for the walking! Your guide will take you through three neighborhoods of Barcelona, sharing stories about how the history, climate, and politics have influenced the cuisine that has become a staple of the local cuisine!

One of the things you will learn during this excursion is that many of the bars and restaurants have been converted from banks and convents! Take in the sights of the Raval neighborhood, famous for its nightlife, cabarets, bars, and many restaurants! Almost half of the inhabitants are immigrants! The area is known for the MACBA (Contemporary Art Museum of Barcelona), and La Boqueria, the most famous market in the city

Gotico, or the Gothic Quarter, is the center of the old city, where you will find remnants of the city's Roman wall and structures from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Finally, you will stroll through El Born in the old city, which is perhaps the trendiest tourist district of Barcelona with its boutiques, bars, and cafes! This is the artist mecca where every street is named after the trade or craftsman that you could find such as Carrer dels Sombrerers (street of the hat makers) is where the hat makers were found. All along the way, your friendly guide will share stories about the city and its people as you take in the wonder of the architecture from the Gothic and Modernist eras along with the Museu Picasso (formerly Aguilar Palace).

As you stroll the streets of Barcelona, you will dine in at least 6 locations frequented by the locals, savoring more than 15 Spanish dishes! At each stop along the way, you will enjoy a traditional drink (vermut, wine, beer, or a non-alcoholic beverage) that is thoughtfully paired with the dishes you are served! Among the tapas (appetizers) you may sample are boquerones, which are made of anchovies fillets marinated in vinegar and olive oil, seasoned with garlic and parsley. Not to your liking? Perhaps you would prefer asparagus fritters, olives, or bomba (a ball of potatoes with a filling of meat and spicy sauce or aioli). Nothing yet? Perhaps you are more easily enticed by choricitos a la sidra (a Spanish sausage cooked in cider), artisanal cheese and cured meats, or something sweet like churros with chocolate! You must be salivating by now!

By the end of your gastro walking excursion, you won't be able to fit in another bite! You will have experienced the culture and foods of Spain while enjoying walking, eating, drinking, and laughter with a group that is limited to 8 people! This will definitely feel more like an intimate time with friends than the typical excursion! When you can eat no more and your experience comes to an end, you can return to your cruise pier or hotel at your leisure and at your own expense. Many excursions say that you will savor the experience, but this one really delivers!

Great intimate tour with group

We were part of a small group of 6 people, mostly Canadians and a great couple from Louisiana. We were lucky enough to have Rowan as our guide. It was a fantastic mix of local food and beverage with some history along the way. I highly recommend this tour if you are on a cruise or want a fun local feel.

A True Taste of Barcelona

Food, culture and history are essential to my travel - and the Barcelona Flavors of Spain Walking tour achieved all these! Led by a guide who is passionate about food, history, and a true love for Barcelona, you get a unique feel for the colours of the city, and a taste for the amazing foods from different regions of Spain with a historical and cultural perspective. I would also recommend being a little hungry before joining the tour, as the variety and amount of food your taste buds experience is fabulous! Thank you for a wonderful and personal experience.”

Wow! Surpassed all expectations!!
     5/5 Visited in October 2017

Summary - lots of food, great guide, very informative and mostly delicious beyond belief! If you're interested in the details, read on... Just took this tour today and it wasn't at all what I expected... living in Oklahoma, I expected the tour to consist of several little appetizer tastings followed by a final meal and the end of the tour. Instead, we left each of the 6-7 stops feeling completely full and walking between one stop to the other to help digest to create room for the next meal! I should mention that I'm quite the eater - I eat more than you'd expect me to eat and pretty much the definition of a bottomless pit lol. I heard the tour had a lot of food but didn't think it would really apply to me... but I definitely needed to crash after it was over since I certainly overate. Also, it's prudent to mention your drinks are completely covered (I also got to a point where I couldn't even finish my glass of water bc I was just so full!) The best part of the tour was the guide. She really had done her research and answered all my (very very many) questions. Her enthusiasm really shined throughout the walk and you could tell she loved what she was doing which made listening to her that much more interesting and enjoyable. We got a bit of history, politics, geography and even a bit of comedy! Not to mention the food was phenomenal!!! I've been to Barcelona before and had some terrible food at the touristy spots. This was like nothing else - we went to places I wouldn't have ever come across on my own (and I'm very Internet savvy - I usually research top restaurants and read reviews before going out for dinner anywhere). I'd recommend it for all ages, whether it's you're first time visiting Barcelona or you've been here many times... I assure you, you will experience the city with a totally different set of eyes!!

I went on one of their tours with Marwa as my guide
     5/5 Visited in September 2017

Everything from the food, the stories, the history and most important the company. It felt like you were hanging with friends you just made, eating incredible food and learning about the history of the city. You can tell Marwa was passionate about what she was talking to us about and so it made for an amazing experience. I plan on going on another tour and I highly recommend it to everyone travelling to Barcelona. Best guided tour I've ever been on!
