Considered one of the most scenic drives in Hawaii, the curving Hana Highway delivers incredible vistas around every bend. The magical town of Hana lies at the end of the enchanted route.
Departing from your cruise ship pier in Kahului Maui, you will set off on a 68-mile (108km) journey along the scenic eastern coast of Maui to the charming little town of Hana. With more than 600 curves and 59 bridges, the journey takes approximately 2.5 hours each way. The drive is one to enjoy as your driver/guide enlightens you with fascinating stories about this area and its history. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the lush landscape of this tropical world as it passes by outside your window.
This unforgettable adventure will take you through the historic town of Paia, to the eastern slopes of Haleakala, where the ride and breathtaking views seem endless. On this remarkable route, you will encounter a charming community nestled on an ancient lava flow, where time-honored Hawaiian farming practices and cultural traditions are still practiced.
You will be able to purchase the famous "best banana bread on Maui" and savor its delicious flavors. Should the weather permit you will be able to take a refreshing dip in the tranquil waterfall pool at Pua'aka'a State Park; or, relax on a black sand beach. You will also explore the lava tubes and enjoy a light lunch and fresh fruit at Waianapanapa State Park, where you are also able to swim.
Continuing on your scenic journey, you‘ll tour the charming town of Hana, discovering its foundations and fascinating history. The rainforest appears to gradually fade away, revealing the slopes of Haleakala's south side. Take in the breathtaking views of the Grand Canyon of Hana and descend from the upcountry slopes of Haleakala. As your beautiful, sightseeing adventure comes to an end, the return to your Kahului Maui cruise pier follows the same highway back.
Please note: The road to Hana is a winding road with numerous curves and bumps. Guests who are prone to motion sickness should not participate. Heavy traffic is to be expected and all times are approximate. There may be road closures for repairs that could alter the exact route.
Where we meet
For this Kahului Road to Hana Sightseeing Excursion, you will meet your guide on the Kahului Maui cruise pier. All necessary details will be printed on your Electronic Shore Excursion Ticket.
Cancellation
For the Kahului Road to Hana Sightseeing Excursion, we issue full refund for your deposit or full payment to us if: Canceled by client prior to excursion date with a minimum of 48 hours prior notice by email to reservations@shoreexcursioneer.com.
For cancellation reasons below, you must contact us via email within 14 days after your excursion:
- Your ship arrives into port late and you cannot make it in time to the meeting location (we will verify with the tour operator).
- Your ship skips/misses the port.
- Weather conditions or equipment failure prevents the operator from running the excursion.
- A medical problem prevents you from safely participating in the excursion (we will verify with the excursion operator and the guest may send doctor's note). This applies to individuals only and not the remainder of the group.
- Cancellations/deposit refund requests that do not comply with the above may not be subject to refund.
- Refunds may be subject to a service charge fee as determined by the payment processor, please refer to Terms and Conditions for more information.
