Your eco-adventure Puerto Plata cruise shore excursion begins when you are greeted by your English-speaking guide at your Amber Cove Cruise Center's main gate in Puerta Plata. You will be escorted to your air-conditioned van, or mini-bus, to enjoy a fully narrated drive to the starting point for your waterfall hike through the Dominican forest.

Once you've arrived at the Waterfall Hike Welcome Center, you are free to use the facilities and then will receive an orientation and safety briefing on your adventure ahead. Be sure to wear comfortable walking or hiking shoes (no flip-flops or dress sandals are permitted) and don't forget those cameras or cell phones!

Then you're off on your 45-minute guided nature walk where you will cross streams, climb gentle paths, and all this while you enjoy the sights and sounds of the unique Caribbean rainforest environment. Keep an eye out for the multitude of tropical birds and plants you may see along the way. Your guide will be available to answer general questions you might have about the region and photo opportunities will be plentiful.

You will be visiting the Charco Grande Waterfall, as locals call it. Enjoy a refreshing dip in the clear cool waters of the pool provided by nature herself. Picture yourself taking a gentle swim while you are lulled by the sounds of cascading waters. Or just sit beside them and dip your toes in. Next, you can take the easy hike back to the Waterfall Hike Welcome Center where you will have a bit of free time. This is when you may choose to browse the center's gift shop, purchase a refreshing beverage or snack, or just sit back and relax.

After your time at the waterfall is over, you will hop aboard your shore excursion vehicle for the return trip to your Amber Cove Puerto Plata cruise ship terminal.

• We suggest you wear a swimsuit under comfortable clothing and sports sandals or sturdy walking shoes that can get wet.

• The drive from the port to the waterfall is approximately 20 minutes (each way).

Where we meet

Excursion Restrictions

• The minimum participation age is 10 years old.
• Closed-toe shoes or sport-type sandals with a backstrap are recommended.
• Guests must fit comfortably in one seat only on the bus/van.
• Due to the amount of activity, this excursion is not suitable for guests with any type of mobility issues.

Cancellation

• Your ship arrives into port late and you cannot make it in time to the meeting location (we will verify with the tour operator).
• Your ship skips/misses the port.
• Weather conditions or equipment failure prevents the operator from running the excursion.
• A medical problem prevents you from safely participating in the excursion (we will verify with the excursion operator and the guest may send doctor's note). This applies to individuals only and not the remainder of the group.
  
• Cancellations/deposit refund requests that do not comply with the above may not be subject to refund.
