Note that the departure times vary slightly each day. Please indicate if you want an AM or PM departure and the most convenient time will be assigned to you. All departure times will be at least one hour after the ship's arrival time. Space sells out very quickly!


After transferring 30 minutes from your Juneau cruise pier downtown to the Mendenhall Valley heliport, you will weigh/check in with the staff before boarding your Juneau flightseeing shore excursion helicopter. The pilot will place you in the helicopter based on the total weight of the guests. On average, the helicopter can hold up to six guests and there is a maximum of 16 per departure. Then it is time to take off. Your experienced helicopter excursion pilot will lift off giving you views back towards Juneau and across the Mendenhall Valley.

In no time at all, you are over the enormous ice formations, looking down at deep-blue crevasses and glistening ice rivers while turning your head back and forth for the once-in-a-lifetime views on either side.

Your helicopter flightseeing excursion pilot will fly over the spectacular rock formations and icefalls of the Juneau Icefield as you head towards your dogsled camp on Herbert Glacier.

Upon arriving at the helicopter and dog sled excursion camp, the professional staff will provide training and instructions on everything you need to know about dog sledding in Juneau Alaska. There will also be stories about the famous Iditarod race, and time to ask questions before it's time to mush. You will break into dog sledding teams of two (one sitting, one standing) as you take your turn feeling the thrill of speeding over the ice underdog power. Your time on the glacier consists of approximately 30 minutes with the mushers for your orientation and approximately 30 minutes with the dogs and sled, allowing everyone a chance to ride the sled as you take turns. The actual time on the sled is approximately 5-6 minutes.

Before your sightseeing excursion helicopter takes you back to base and civilization, you will have some free time so make sure to get some pictures with the Alaskan sled dogs in their snowy territory.
Upon arrival at the helipad near the airport, your transportation will be waiting to take you back downtown to your Juneau cruise ship terminal, approximately 30 minutes away.

• Prices shown include all taxes and fees.
  
• Guests must be able to climb in/out of the helicopter.
  
• The excursion is available from May 1 until Sept 1. The end of the season may be shortened up to 10 days due to glacier conditions.
• Guests must be able to walk over rugged icy the glacier (frozen ice lake).
  
• Jackets, shoes with traction, gloves, and sunglasses are strongly recommended.
  
• Your weight includes the clothes, shoes, and jacket you are wearing on the day of the helicopter shore excursion.
  
• All guests will be weighed in at the heliport. Any guest over 300 pounds who is not holding an excursion ticket for "over 300 pounds" will be accommodated on a later flight if space is available. If space is not available, you will not be entitled to a refund.
  
• Please pay attention to the restrictions and requirements for this excursion, no refund will be granted if the requirements are not met.
  
• We recommend wearing layers with the top layer being waterproof.
• Please wear sensible walking/hiking shoes that may get wet.
  
• We suggest you have cash on hand for refreshments, fishing license(s), excursion staff gratuities, shopping, etc.
• Landings on glaciers inside the Tongass National Forest are under permits issued by the USDA Forest Service.

Where we meet

For this Juneau Helicopter and Dog Sledding Excursion, you will meet your local shore excursion staff right in the Juneau cruise pier area. All necessary details will be printed on your Electronic Shore Excursion Ticket.

Excursion Restrictions

• Passenger names and weights are required at the time of booking by the FAA for weight and balance calculations.
• NOTE that groups may be split into different helicopters depending on weight distribution, party size, and seating.
• To ensure the comfort of all travelers, passengers weighing between 260-299lbs (clothed weight) must pay an additional $150.00 to secure extra space in the helicopter aircraft (see excursion shopping cart options).
  
• To ensure the comfort of all travelers, passengers weighing 300+lbs (clothed weight) must pay an additional 2 seats.
• For safety, lap children are not allowed on the helicopter. All guests must be buckled into their own seats.
• There is a no-bag policy on all helicopters, if you have medical needs that require a carry-on, please contact us.
• All bags brought to the helicopter shore excursion base will be stored in the excursion office until you return from your flight.
• Pregnant women up to 10 weeks should check with their doctor before booking this excursion.
• Women 10 weeks or over should not participate in this excursion.

Excursion FAQ

Cancellation

• Your ship arrives into port late and you cannot make it in time to the meeting location (we will verify with the tour operator).
• Your ship skips/misses the port.
• Weather conditions or equipment failure prevents the operator from running the excursion.
• A medical problem prevents you from safely participating in the excursion (we will verify with the excursion operator and the guest may send doctor's note). This applies to individuals only and not the remainder of the group.
  
• Cancellations/deposit refund requests that do not comply with the above may not be subject to refund.
• Refunds may be subject to a service charge fee as determined by the payment processor, please refer to Terms and Conditions for more information.
