After meeting your Alaska shore excursion guide on the pier in downtown Ketchikan, you will take a scenic 30-minute drive to a mountain lake. Upon arrival, you will receive safety information and put on life jackets for your adventure island shore excursion. Boarding your open motorized ocean raft, you will follow the coast of Clover Passage on your 30-minute ride to Betton Island. Keep your eyes open as you may see wildlife such as bald eagles, whales, sea lions, and seals. Although wildlife sightings are never a guarantee, they are more frequent away from civilization.

Upon arrival at the island, you will join an experienced Alaskan trail excursion guide for a walk through natural, unspoiled beauty in a coastal rainforest. The trail takes you through a beautiful old-growth forest, by way of a secluded beach. The well-maintained trail is mostly level over packed dirt and boardwalk. The walk is approximately one-mile in length.

You will have the opportunity to learn about botanic species native to this region, such as western red cedar and yellow cedar that early natives were so dependent upon for spiritual enrichment, shelter and transportation. You will also have the opportunity to learn about beach life, such as starfish or sea cucumbers, depending what is present that day, or learn how the natives used the seaweed in their daily lives. Bring your camera and binoculars as the beautiful scenery is always changing and you may spot some wildlife on this unique Ketchikan Island Cruise Shore Excursion.

During your stay at the island, you will enjoy an Alaska-style snack by the campfire including clam chowder, rolls, jam, smoked salmon, juice, hot chocolate, coffee and water. You will learn why everything tastes better in the great outdoors. Total time on the island is approximately 90 minutes. You will then reboard your open motorized ocean raft for the zippy 30-minute boat ride back to the mainland where your transportation will be waiting for the 30-minute transfer back to Ketchikan and your cruise ship terminal.

The banana boat ride was a fun way to get to the island and we encountered many sightings like seat otters and sea lions and many eagles. The hike was relaxing and John had so much info to share. He knows his surroundings which was a plus. The highlight was indeed the food by the camp fire everything was fulfilling and delicious. It would be nice to be able to camp out here .
