You will meet your knowledgeable, English-speaking driver at your Naples cruise pier, where you will board your transportation. Your first stop is in Pompeii, one of the most popular destinations in Italy! Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD, burying Pompeii in volcanic ash. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Numerous excavations have uncovered well-preserved objects buried for over 2,000 years due to the lack of air and moisture.

Continuing your adventure, you will move to Herculaneum, another UNESCO World Heritage Site! Located in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius, it was also destroyed by the eruption in 79 AD. Compared to Pompeii, Herculaneum was a more prosperous town. The most famous of its villas - Villa of the Papyri - is named after its library full of scrolls (papyri). Its architecture is exquisite, having been restored to its original state! Although tourism and vandalism resulted in quite a bit of damage, recent reconstruction has been very successful! In Pompeii, excavations are no longer permitted, but the largest collection to date of Greek and Roman sculptures has been uncovered along with frescoes and bronzes. 

Your final stop is Mount Vesuvius! Its eruption in 79 AD was not its first by any means, and it is not its last; there have been many since! With its last major eruption occurring in 1944, it is one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world because of the large population living nearby. The summit of Vesuvius is accessible to visitors by a spiral walkway that winds up to the crater. The surrounding area has been designated as a national park.

Excursion Notes

• Excursion prices will be displayed in US dollars, but the balance must be paid in Euros, which will be indicated on your E-Ticket.
• Entrance fees are NOT included. The Pompeii ruins entrance fee is 18 Euros per guest. Mount Vesuvius is 15 Euros per guest and the Herculaneum entrance fee is 11 Euros per guest. These fees may vary slightly.
  
• We recommend bringing cash (Euros) for entrance fees, refreshments, excursion staff gratuities, and shopping.
• Sensible, rubber-soled walking shoes are highly recommended along with sun protection.
  
• Car seats are available for an additional 6 Euros fee to be paid on-site. Please let us know in advance to make the proper arrangements.

Where we meet

For this Naples Private Pompeii, Mt. Vesuvius, and Herculaneum Sightseeing Excursion, you will meet your local driver outside your Naples cruise port. All necessary details will be printed on your Electronic Shore Excursion Ticket.

Excursion Restrictions

• This excursion is not wheelchair accessible or suitable for guests with limited mobility.
  
• Guests must be able to step in and out of the transportation.
  
• Guests must be able to walk for more than 2 hours and to walk on paved gravel, and cobblestone surfaces, some on inclines.
• There are steps required to enter several of the sites as well as steep curbs in some areas.

Cancellation

• Your ship arrives into port late and you cannot make it in time to the meeting location (we will verify with the tour operator).
• Your ship skips/misses the port.
• Weather conditions or equipment failure prevents the operator from running the excursion.
• A medical problem prevents you from safely participating in the excursion (we will verify with the excursion operator and the guest may send doctor's note). This applies to individuals only and not the remainder of the group.
  
• Cancellations/deposit refund requests that do not comply with the above may not be subject to refund.
