If you are searching for a day of fun in the water and sun, look no further. This adventure in Jamaica is filled with fun and excitement with a combo adventure of Dunns River Falls and an exciting choice of river rapid activities along with a tasty authentic lunch on the beach!

Your driver will meet you at your Falmouth cruise port for the approximate 60-minute drive along the north coast highway of Jamaica. Your first stop for the day is at the world famous Dunns River Falls in Ocho Rios, which was featured in the films "Dr. No" and "Cocktail". You may have admired other waterfalls before, but these will take your breath away. Your guide will lead you on your climb spanning over 600 feet up the cascading waterfalls. It takes about 1 to 1.5 hours to climb, including short breaks for photographs and video recordings. While here, be sure to take advantage of a soothing massage and swim in one of the river pools. If you don't want to get wet or can't navigate the rocky, uneven terrain, you can choose to climb the stairs instead.

Before your next water adventure, your driver will take you to beautiful Bengal Beach for a complimentary lunch that includes authentic Jamaican dishes like delicious Jerk chicken, along with a non-alcoholic beverage (water, Gatorade or soft drinks).

After lunch, you will have a short 10-minute drive to your next destination - River Rapids Adventure on the Rio Bueno River. A guide will greet you and provide your safety gear when you sign in. You will be able to choose from tubing, rafting, kayaking, or river boarding down the gorgeous river. If you are traveling in a group, each member can pick a different activity which will finish at approximately the same time as they all follow the same river route. Along the way, you will stop for a swim and be able to dive from a platform into the refreshing spring water in a lagoon.

Continuing on to the point where the river meets the Caribbean Sea, you will take a scenic boat ride along the Bengal Bay coastline to the private Bengal Beach again for your remaining time. Take some time to swim in the warm water and relax or soak up some sunshine. You can enjoy some shade as well as refreshments at the bar.

At the end of this exciting day in Jamaica, your driver will return you to your Falmouth cruise port.

This was a great way to see part of the island and experience some of the local attractions. We walked past the shops in port to a parking lot to meet out company representative. There were originally 2 others that were supposed to be in our group but they cancelled, so it ended up being just our family. I think this changed the plans of the vehicle they were going to use. Our representative directed us to walk out of the area and down the road across the street to meet someone else from the company. Even the local authority found this odd. After the fact we think it was because they were using a different vehicle since it was just out family of 4 and they didnt need the larger vehicle that was in the parking area we were in. Once at the new location, our guide, Charlotte, met us and loaded us into her car. The even lowered the back seat for my son, which he enjoyed! She drove us around telling us a bit about the history, pointing out unique houses and schools and mentioning some of the famous Olympians on the way to our first stop. We got to the falls and she led us to the entrance (we had to use the Falls guides in the park). I appreciated that she also gave us a heads up about the market afterwards and how to avoid being stuck having to purchase something we didnt actually want. The climb up the Fall was great. I'm not in the best shape and was able to do it. There were some parts that I was concerned about, but our guide kept us safe and we made it to the top no problem. When done we exited the park and met up with Charoltte in the parking lot. She gave us the option of lunch or tubing next and we chose lunch. It was chicken, rice and beans, and some veggies. We also got a cup of punch. The food was good, but some of my family said it lacked the jerk seasoning they were hoping for. We then headed to the tubing. This is where we actually paid the balance of the excursion (tusting that they let us pay towards the end). We were equipt with a tube, helmet and life jacket. There is a swinging bridge and then a path you walk down before getting to the entrance point of the river. We linked together by holding onto one another's tubes. Our river guide was amazing navigating around us to be sure none of us ended up in the bushes on the edge and that we all went down the river in the right spots. There was one point that we stopped so mu son could jump off the bridge deck they had built. We continued down the river, our guide working hard but in a way that seemed almost unnoticeable unless looking at what he was doing specifically. There are some small rapid parts, enough to enjoy the turbulence but not so much that it was scary. Toward the end of the river we stopped and got out of our tubes. We then climbed into a raft that was pulled by a boat that took us the final way out the river, into the ocean and back to the beach area where we had eaten lunch. Charlotte was waiting on us. We headed back to port. My family was wanting to pick up a couple local beers. Charlotte suggested a local store as they would be cheaper there than in port. After a pit stop for beverages at the local convince store, she took us back to port. We were drive up into the port area so we had a short walk back to the ship. It was a full and fun private day. I appreciated the information that Charlotte provided as she escorted us around part of the island. I would definitely recommend this tour for anyone looking to be able to experience multiple stops and have a small group

Dunns River Falls and River Rapids - Thumbs Up

Although we enjoyed our climb up Dunns River Falls (not crowded our visit – we were the first ship in port) and the tube ride down the Rio Bueno River, the highlight of this excursion was our guide – Sherlet. When we got to our excursion meeting point, we were having to wait for other tour mates. After a short wait, it was discovered that the other group(s) had cancelled, so we ended up a private tour in Sherlet’s van as opposed to the bigger scheduled tour bus. During our hour ride out and back, Sherlet kept us informed of highlights and history along the way. On our way out she pointed out someone cooking types of bread using tire rims as the charcoal holder. Then on the way back, she stopped and bought us some to try. Quite a tasty treat. Shirlet also made a stop for souvenir shopping (much the same things to be found around the port shops, but substantially cheaper). When I mentioned something about local beer, she made another stop allowing me to grab some at a gas station (at half the price I would have had to pay back at port. Side note: If you like shandys, give Red Stripe Lemon Paradise a try). Quick notes on the actual excursion. At Dunns River Falls you will be joined with other folks and be led by a local guide. They do an awesome job to keep you entertained and safe (at least ours did). Expect to also have a local videographer as part of your group. Think it is around $40 for a copy (which we did not get). Be prepared to tip both. If you are unable to secure belongings on your tour vehicle, lockers are available for $10(?). Definitely take water shoes (if not, it’s another $10 to purchase there). Also, as you walk to and from the falls, you’ll pass a variety of small booths. When asked, do not offer your name. If you do, you’ll then be expected to purchase something that your name is now carved into. We opted for the tube down the river. This time it was just the four of us with a river guide. We were approached by a videographer, but said we would not be buying at the end (so he did not accompany us). The river had just enough rapids to make it fun. We also made a stop along the way, that allowed my grandson to jump off a platform into the river (which he did three times). Again, the local guide kept us safe and entertained. The least favorite part of the excursion was the meal. Basically rice and chicken. Was expecting more jerk seasoning. The offered beverage was a watery punch. I think I would have preferred an excursion without the food included and instead have let Shirlet recommend a local eatery. (Plan on tipping at least four different folks for this excursion; five if you make use of the videographer on the river).
